History
|
History of Būvniecības ABC stores started in 1993, when the first store was
opened in Riga at 437a Brīvības gatve under other but well-known name
"Berģu Nams".
At that time, "Berģu Nams" was one of the first dealers in construction
materials offering an unusually wide choice of qualitative local and western products.
An offer of a wide range of goods in combination with persistent and purposeful activities
of the "Berģu Nams" team provided for further successful development of the firm.

1997
In March 1997, another "Berģu Nams" store was opened at 13
Skanstes Street, Riga and the third and then largest "Berģu Nams"
store opened its doors to buyers at 27/29 Pērnavas Street, Riga.
1998
In 1998, the block of shares of Berģu Nams LLC was bought by its current owner
and manager Estonian company A/S Famar-Desi, which is the largest
trading company of construction materials in Estonia. Consolidated turnover of the
firm in 2002 exceeded 37 mln. LVL.
1999
In 1999, a Wholesales Department was established, which gave the firm an
opportunity to serve more qualitatively and professionally the construction
firms and dealers of construction materials throughout Latvia placing
emphasis on complex completion and supply of construction materials and
tools.
2000
In 2000, the store at 27/29 Pērnavas Street, Riga was expanded and an
administrative building was erected housing convenient offices for the
firm's personnel and guests.
2002
At the end of 2002, the largest store was opened at 93 Mūkusalas Street.
With this store opening, the firm adopted a unified trademark within the concern -
Būvniecības ABC. Together with the new trademark, unified customer-servicing
standards and unified customer card system were introduced.
2003
In spring 2003, the firm name was changed for Famar-Desi LLC and cooperation
with the parent company in Estonia was unified, and also two smaller firm stores at
437a Brīvības gatve and 13 Skanstes Street were closed, as they did not meet any
longer the demands of modern trading centers of construction materials, and the
firm itself.

Today, we can look back with pride and satisfaction at the history
of development of the firm, which has turned from a small shop of construction
materials into one of the largest dealers of construction materials and tools
in Latvia. Total selling areas of the firm exceed 6000 m2, its storage
areas exceed 5200 m2; the merchandise mix on regular offer covers some 30000
descriptions of goods.
Rapid growth of the firm is evidenced by its turnover dynamics
as well as its stock dynamics, which show that we work persistently on the
merchandise mix expansion offering the more wide options to our customers.
